Video Assist is defined as the on-set equipment (and Operator), used to capture a video feed from the production camera(s) and have it available for immediate playback for the Director. In the past, Video Assist was traditionally required when shooting on film due to the time delay in receiving lab generated Dailies. Today, with HD and digital production formats gaining popularity, video assist is still required in order to playback captured media in a viewable form. This can either be achieved by capturing a down converted signal (Tape Based or Non-Linear) for playback or by capturing and playing back a feed in HD (HD Video Assist).
Sim Video offers a variety of Video Assist equipment solutions to meet the parameters of any production. All of our rack mounted carts can be outfitted with your specific equipment needs creating highly functional and portable Video Assist units.
Tape Based Video Assist Cart
This type of cart uses decks and tapes to record and playback captured footage. Although the rental rate on these carts is lower than the Non-Linear Video Assist carts, the footage can not be played back instantly as rewind time is required.
Non-Linear Video Assist Cart
Utilizing a non-linear, digital system to record the footage on a hard drive, this system allows for immediate playback on-set.
HD Video Assist Cart
This unit uses a non-linear, digital system to record HD Footage on to a hard drive, allowing for immediate playback in HD on-set.
Non-Linear Video Mixing / VFX Mixing Cart
This non-linear, digital system helps visual effects departments to line up VFX shots often utilized to help in the composition of green screen or stunt shots.
